        Life in Riversdale

Riversdale is a quaint fishing village located at the northernmost end of the Placencia Peninsula. Inhabited by a mix of expats and locals, the atmosphere is quiet and peaceful, broken only by the sea breeze, swaying palm trees, and the occasional flock of parrots passing overhead.

Riversdale boasts one small hotel, known for its hospitality and great food. The restaurant mentioned is the only other eating establishment in the village and is run by a local who brings seafood directly from the beachside to her kitchen.

The village sits directly on the Caribbean Sea, only a short boat ride from fantastic fishing, snorkeling, and diving. To the south of Riversdale, the journey down the peninsula first leads to Maya Beach. This relaxed section of the peninsula is favored by expats and features some of the best restaurants in the area. Just a 12-minute drive from Riversdale, we find Maya Beach Bistro, a hotspot for gastronomic delights, famous for its breakfast, Happy Hour tapas, and romantic beachfront dinners.

Maya Beach also has the only bowling alley in Belize, just 12 minutes away from Riversdale, where locals gather for fun nights of bowling, wings, and beer. The bowling alley hosts weekly poker nights and a bowling league, along with big screen TVs featuring the latest games.

Further south, a leisurely 30-minute drive from Riversdale leads to Placencia Village, one of Belize’s major tourist destinations, known for its beachside promenade lined with bars and restaurants. Here, visitors can enjoy the beach and renowned local dishes while embarking on exciting tours offered by knowledgeable guides. Popular activities include boat rides into monkey territory, manatee watching in the mangroves, and tasting local delicacies.

Heading north from the Placencia Peninsula, just 15 minutes away, is the famous Cockscomb Basin Forest Reserve. Nearly 100,000 acres of protected forest on the slopes of the Maya Mountains await exploration. This area is known for its elusive jaguar, and local guides can assist in spotting wildlife and share experiences of traditional chocolate-making techniques, offering a taste of authentic local cuisine.
